Taking Steps to be the Best
Amanda Womac

One of our long-term goals at the Hearing and Speech Foundation is to become a world-renowned research and training center for the Verbotonal Method. Although we are still a ways off from achieving world-class status, we will take major strides over the next few months towards this goal.

Perhaps one of the most exciting developments is our focus on expanding our Training Program and creating the Auditory Training and Therapy Center. The Center will provide a unique approach to training and therapy that will focus on collaborative learning and training among professionals who share common principles.

The training portion of this project will focus on training professionals to be certified in the Verbotonal Method. We also plan to partner with other programs for workshops and shared knowledge, which will provide more collaboration among professionals in the fields of audiology, speech pathology, deaf education and others.

Additionally, we will provide auditory therapy services for children and adults that will be based on the Verbotonal Method and provided by certified verbotonalists. Children of all ages with hearing-impairments or cochlear implants as well as adults with hearing-impairments or cochlear implants will be eligible for services. We are still working out the details, but check back for more information about services to be offered over the summer.

In our Research and Development Program, researchers focus on understanding speech perception so that we can use our findings to develop better-functioning hearing aids for the hearing-impaired. Recently, our research was accepted for presentation at the International Symposium of the Verbotonal System, “Man and Speech – 50 Years of Suvag” in Zagreb, Croatia, May 19-21.
